Deon Tauwehe Eketone must pay Property Brokers Manawatu Limited As Agent For T Thakery $3,879.86 immediately, calculated as shown in table below.
The Bond Centre is to pay the bond of $1,440.00 (5955701-004) to Property Brokers Manawatu Limited As Agent For T Thakery immediately.

Reasons

The landlord represented by Mr Walker with Ms Cowan also in attendance, attended the hearing which was held by teleconference. The tenant did not answer any of the calls made at the scheduled time on the two numbers provided to the Tribunal.
The tenant has been served by email which is an address for service on his tenancy agreement.
Because I am satisfied the tenant has been served notice of the hearing in accordance with the Residential Tenancies Act, 1986 and the tenant has not requested an adjournment, the hearing was conducted in the tenant’s absence.
The landlord has applied for termination of the tenancy, rent arrears, reimbursement of the filing fee and refund of the bond.

Should the tenancy be terminated?

The Tribunal may terminate the tenancy where the premises have been abandoned and rent is in arrear at the hearing date. See section 61 Residential Tenancies Act 1986. A tenancy is abandoned where the tenant leaves the premises without reasonable excuse, not intending to return or to meet their obligations, and fails to notify the landlord.
On 7 July 2025 the landlord conducted an inspection at the property. The property appeared to have been abandoned. Rent was in arrear.
Because the premises have been abandoned, and rent is in arrear, the tenancy is terminated 21 days after it was first discovered the premises had been abandoned.
